Self-cleaning ovens use extremely high temperatures to burn off food residue, turning it to ash that can be easily wiped away. When this feature stops working, several components could be responsible.

The door lock mechanism must engage before the self-clean cycle can begin. If the door doesn't lock, the oven won't reach cleaning temperatures. Check that nothing is obstructing the door latch.

A faulty door lock motor or actuator will prevent the self-clean cycle from starting. You may hear the motor attempting to engage without success, or see no response at all.

The thermal fuse is a safety device that prevents overheating. If this fuse has tripped, the self-clean function won't work. Once tripped, the fuse must be replaced.

Electronic control board failures can affect the self-clean function while leaving other oven features operational. The control board manages the precise timing and temperature requirements of the cleaning cycle.

For Wolf, Thermador, and other premium ovens, the control panel may display error codes when self-clean fails. Consult your owner's manual for specific code meanings.

Temperature sensor problems can prevent the oven from reaching or maintaining the 900+ degree temperatures needed for self-cleaning.

In Arizona, we recommend running self-clean cycles during cooler months when possible. The extreme heat generated can stress components more when ambient temperatures are already high.

After a self-clean cycle failure, allow the oven to cool completely before attempting another cycle or troubleshooting. The high temperatures involved require complete cooling for safe inspection.
